in Houston, TX. Kevin has written and presented this SPE Paper

Engineer's Week Event at Carnegie Science Center

Once again the Pittsburgh Chapter of SPE participated in the annual Engineer's Week event at the Carnegie Science Center - which is located next to Heinz Field and across the river from the downtown Pittsburgh, We joined more than 50 groups hosting tables featuring presentations, demonstrations and hands-on activities related to various facets of the engineering profession. For our January meeting we held a lunch meeting at Cefalo's in Carnegie on Wednesday January 11th. We had registration and networking at 11am, lunch at 11:30, and a presentation at noon by Katie Klaber, the President and Executive Director of the Marcellus Shale Coalition. She spoke about the political and economic issues in Marcellus and Utica Shale regions..

Marcellus Shale Grab Bag - May 17, 2011
Roger Myers, Manager of Completions Engineering at EXCO Resources (PA), LLCpresented a talk titled:
Marcellus Shale Grab Bag - Cement, Diagnostic Fracture Injection Tests, Flowback Water, and DEP Production Results
The talk featured an interesting mix of topics based on Roger's experience working in the Marcellus including: cementing for long term zonal isolation, diagnostic fracture injection test data and implications, some interesting analysis and thoughts on Marcellus flowback water both short term and long term, and some slicing and dicing of the PA DEP shale production data.

Student Golf Outing Weekend: Penn State, April 29-30, 2011
The Penn State Chapter of SPE would like to formally invite you to its 6th Annual Golf Outing to be held at Toftrees Golf Resort and Convention Center.
The weekend event will begin on Friday April 29th, with a Banquet Welcome Dinner to be held at Toftrees sponsored by Southwestern Enegery.
On Saturday April 30th, morning through late afternoon will be the golf outing with 4-Person Best Ball Scramble play. Penn State Chapter accepts all players and asks that you arrange teams of three or less so that at least one student player can be added to your group. The cost per company representative is $160. Each student sponsorship is $100. This cost includes all green fees and club rentals. It also includes a choice from a variety of food and beverages located on food stations throughout the course during the day. At the conclusion of the outing, prizes will be given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, and several other contests such as Closest to Pin, Longest Drive, and Longest Putt. Saturday evening a cocktail hour and dinner will be served (tentatively) at the Nittany Lion Inn.
This event is a great opportunity for Industry members to interact with students and the Penn State Student members greatly appreciate your participation and support.

March 2011 Meeting: Inspiring the Next Generation
One of SPE's primary missions is to help engage, inspire and educate the next generation of petroleum engineers. This type of outreach is also crucial to engaging teachers and parents about the benefits of the industry and the Marcellus Shale--both to the individuals who work in it and our community.

A team at EQT has been conducting a study on hydraulic fracturing and well spacing in 3 areas of the Marcellus shale. The team developed a paper that was recently presented at the SPE Hydraulic Fracturing Conference in Houston in January 2011.
