The mission of the lab is:
* To build new knowledge and develop new technologies for evaluation and development of unconventional resources such as
ultra-tight gas, shale gas, coalbed methane, shale oil, geothermal and others.
* To educate the future engineers and leaders in the petroleum and the broader energy industry.
The lab is funded by the University and government agencies such as DOE, NSF, NASA and others. The lab also seeks corporate support through membership and research projects.
