Scholarships are an important part of the work of SPE. This page list specific information about our Section scholarships and the Gus Archie Memorial scholarship.

SPE Pittsburgh Petroleum Section Scholarship Applications for 2012
Applications are now being accepted.
The Pittsburgh Petroleum Section board has decided to award $15,000 in scholarship funds for each of the next fours years (2010-2013). Six recipients will be chosen annually, each receiving a scholarship in the amount of $2,500.00.
Five of the recipients will be SPE student section members who apply for the scholarship. The sixth recipient is reserved for the dependent of an SPE professional member in the Pittsburgh Section; the applicant for the dependent scholarship can have any major (does not have to be related to the oil and gas industry).

Gus Archie Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded nationally to the most outstanding student who has not previously attended university. The student must be enrolled in a curriculum that leads to an undergraduate degree in petroleum engineering.
The scholarship amount is $6,000 per year and is renewable for up to 4 years, provided the student makes satisfactory academic progress.
The application may be submitted to the Section Scholarship Chairperson (John Yilin Wang) or directly to SPE.

Congratulations to 2010 Pittsburgh Petroleum Section Scholarship Winners
Congratulations to the 6 recipients, all SPE student members at Penn State University.
The scholarships, each in the amount of $2,500, were presented to the students at an April 16 social event at Toftrees Resort. Members of the SPE Pittsburgh Petroleum Section board of directors reviewed applications and awarded scholarships based on academic achievement and involvement in SPE and the industry.
